Utah Sen. Chris Buttars has a solution to his state’s desperate $700-million deficit: eliminate 12th grade.
Buttars says that the U.S. needs to take a cue from “most other industrialized nations” who only use 11 grades.
He also says that curriculum would not suffer, and that students would be encouraged to push harder for high standards on a faster track.
I remember “killing time” when I was a senior. I took study hall classes, and added choir courses, to fill my days since I had to be there anyway.
Academically, I probably could have made it without my senior year. Emotionally and socially, though, I needed that time.
